A Conversation

I did a converstion today. Well I say a ‘conversation’ but it wasn’t really. It was with a shop assistant in the Cotswold Outdoor shop on Deansgate, Manchester, UK. I don’t know why, but the way she greeted me immediately gave me goosebumps, and I don’t get that from ‘fake friendly’ customer service staff. She seemed shy actually. So I asked her if they sold a tent repair product I was looking for, and she didn’t know, but had a hunch, so we went and investigated it together like we were a team. She showed me some unsuitable products and looked on the computer. I was getting major ASMR tingles from it all. I asked her loads of questions that I already knew the answers to just to prolong it. I even made some small talk about the weather being hot… Gosh look at me, I’m almost normal.

Not really a conversation, but still the closest I’ve come for a while. I think the last real one I had was on the phone with my Twitter friend Deryl about 6 weeks ago. Everything else has just been “Hi”, “do you want a bag?” type stuff. Maybe that’s normal in the modern world though?

No, I don’t think she fancied me if you’re thinking that, she was half my age probably and just trying to do her job well, and came off as genuine and a bit shy, whilst most people these days come off as fake.

  1. This sounds like a very pleasant and perfectly normal exchange to be celebrated in these days of stilted interaction
